Welcome to Little Woodbatch

What if we chose to BE MORE - together - and be happier with less?

We’re living through the most significant change in human history. The destruction of our environment, loss of connection to nature and each other. We’ve become convinced that we need more stuff to be happy. Turns out, we need to feel like we’re a part of something. Skills and knowledge give us confidence and make us feel like we can face what is coming. Community shows us that we’re not at it alone. We can be resilient. We can create resilient local systems - of food, water, energy, support and mutual aid.

Little Woodbatch is a commitment to radical optimism. It’s an invitation to connect, learn and skill up: to create something resilient at a small scale to show what is within the realm of the possible.

What could a Thrutopian Farm project look like?

This is based on taking a “Thrutopian” approach to our uncertain future - not “Utopian” - which is so perfect as to be unachievable, nor “Distopian”, which is too grim and resigned.

Thrutopianism - both a literary genre and philosophical lens - is based on the practical work of creating the future we need to transition to and it starts with a change of mindset and a recalibrating of our personal and social values.

I think this comes from collaboration, coming up with a shared vision(s) and taking steps to create that future in real time.

An Invitation:

Our work at Little Woodbatch comes from my belief that we have a responsibility to take care of one another and our planet, that we can have richer lives for it, and that through this we can cultivate a future of abundance for all to share. We know that we can achieve this with the land and living systems on the farm, and the strength, curiosity and determination of our community.
